beatles The Beatles Carnival Of Light will be interminable nonsense, you watch
Excuse me a second, readership. Before I begin this post about the potential release of The Beatles’ long-lost “Carnival Of Light”, I’m just going to count the number of enjoyable 14-minute “tracks” I have listened to over the years. Perhaps you could do the same.
*Thinks*
*Continues to think*
*Gives up thinking*

How many did you manage to come up with? I came up with a big fat oval-shaped “0″. That is because, despite all the drooling over the prospect of a 14-minute Beatles track being unveiled, no decent songs of that length have ever, ever, EVER been recorded.

7 minutes is the absolute tops, really - and even that should not be encouraged. In fact I’d argue no band should be allowed to record more than one item of such length in their career. Yes, that’s what we need - a system of length quotas.
What’s even worse than the prospect of listening to a 14-minute hippy-dippy dirge is the fact that it was improvised. Good lord. I don’t care who your favourite band is - if they offer to sit you down so that you can listen to them “jam” for FOURTEEN MINUTES, you say: “Why thank you very much, how kind. However, I feel that time would be better spent reading a nice magazine. Goodbye.”
Of course I’m being a tad flippant - as a relic of a bygone era I guess “Carnival Of Light” will have some value. But to people like me, who don’t view music fandom as a challenge to complete collections, or cherish dusty rarities, the fuss over the track’s potential release is frankly bewildering.

yeah, who on earth would be interested in hearing a ‘new’ Beatles song recorded at the height of their powers? Oh yes, everyone.
I agree that 14min songs are a no-no generally but this is a special case

A Very Cellular Song by Incredible String Band is 14 minutes long and is my favourite tune of all time! HIGHLY RECCOMENDED!

I quite liked the album version of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s Welcome to the Pleasuredome. That took up a whole side of a 12″ at 33rpm, so must’ve been around the 14-min mark.
And does any of War of the Worlds count?

You did NOT enjoy that “Welcome To The Pleasuredome” remix, and no, War Of The Worlds does not count in any debate, ever.

I’m a bit partial to the 15 minute version of Depeche Mode’s ‘Enjoy The Silence’… but then I am a bit of a losergeek.
