There’s no folkie, singer songwritery news today. So, seeing as the sun is out and I’m in the mood for some sumptuous pop to see me through the afternoon, let’s sink into the golden strains of Glenn Campbell. A random choice? No way! It’s Glen’s birthday today! He’s a grand ol’ 72! Now, here’s his most famous (although not necessarily best) hit, ‘Wichita Lineman’.

Folk legend Leonard Cohen has been off the road for a fair while now, so to compensate his fans he’s going on a monster tour of just about every country in the entire world to play hits old and new. The mammoth tour kicks off on the 6th of May and ends in Vienna in August. Along the way he’ll stop at Glastonbury, The Big Chill and some places I’ve never even heard of in the Eastern Bloc. Exciting stuff! Read over for a very long list of tour dates!
Last week Laura Barton in The Guardian banged on at length about Bon Iver, who I’d seen mentioned many times in my blog-trawls but hadn’t bothered investigating. Bon Iver is the stage name of Justin Vernon, and every article written about his album For Emma, Forever Ago is obliged to mention that he recorded it alone in a log cabin in Wisconsin after some personal strife.
Sounds a bit too good to be true as a biography for a singer-songwriter, dunnit? “Skinny Love” is one of his tracks that’s been getting a lot of attention recently; check him out performing it last year at The Bowery Ballroom in NYC over the page and make up your own mind.
Neil Young shows sell out fast. Worse still, they ALWAYS cost an arm and a leg. So, how do you go about watching the great man? Well, one answer is to catch him at a festival, which is handy as Young has been added to this year’s Roskilde Festival bill.
Young last played the Danish festival in 2000 and returns to plug his latest LP ‘Chrome Dreams’. On the bill, Young will be playing with Radiohead and My Bloody Valentine. Not bad eh? The festival is hosted near Copenhagen and takes place from July 3 - 6. More news, info and ticket details can be found at www.roskilde-festival.dk. Young kicked off his UK leg last night in Edinburgh and he’ll round-up these shores with dates at the Hammersmith Apollo ( March 5/6/8/9/11/14/15) and Manchester Apollo (11/12).
