Free man Nelson Mandela invites you to his birthday party in Hyde Park in aid of 46664

Music News

Nelson_Mandela.gifNelson Mandela, who is free, is inviting you to his 90th birthday in London’s Hyde Park. That’s nice, innit? Not so nice is that you’ll need to pay. But niceness wins 2-1 against not-niceness in this little battle, because the shindig is being thrown in conjunction with 46664, a charity which aims to raise awareness and funds in the fight against the global HIV/AIDS pandemic. It doesn’t get much nicer than that.
If I get to see my 90th birthday I just hope my brain is in good enough nick to recognise the fact. Nelson Mandela - a free man for twenty years now - is throwing a flipping concert for thousands of folk, gawd bless ‘im. He says:
“London wants to celebrate my birthday and I said I would go if they would raise funds for our charities. So, we have a bargain - I am going to London and they there will host a concert in Hyde Park, which will raise awareness of our continuing work and much needed funds.”

Drives a hard bargain, doesn’t he, that Nezza? At least he’s free though. 46664, incidentally, was Mandy’s prisoner number when he was locked up on Robben Island for twenty-seven years. He’s not locked up anymore. He’s free now.
No details as to the acts likely to play the gig yet, but at a venue the size of Hyde Park, and for a cause that worthy, I’d say you can expect some pretty hefty artists. Watch this space.
